Chronicle: THE CHECKERBOARD

Someone once asked Fernando Sabino, brazilian writer, why he used to write.
            - Why literature, Fernando? Why do you write?
            - I write - he said - because I don't know, so that I write to know.
The metaphor Fernando used to cite that of the checkerboard. The checkerboard is not white with black squares or black with white squares, but another color, on which there are black and white squares. Well, this is reality, and the literature has to show us what color is that one.
